Paul Richardson doing his thing two weeks into the college football season.

#Colorado #CU

When I previewed Paul Richardson earlier this year, many readers did not know who he was despite his accolades after his true freshman season. After the first time I worked with with Paul I became a believer. For those of you who do not know who P. Rich is or are not a believer please click on the link and enjoy…..

Sheldon Price is the corner back of the future. With great ball skills, impeccable footwork, hands like a receiver, and quickness to cover any receiver in the NCAA, Price is a prime candidate for another All Pac 12 selection. Oh, and I forgot to mention he stands at 6’2 and is as sure a tackler as they come.

Another Bishop Amat High school standout student athlete, lettering in football and track while at Bishop, Sheldon chose to further his education and athletic career at UCLA. Earning Prep Star All American honors as a senior, playing early and contributing as a freshman was one of Sheldon’s many goals when he stepped on campus. With 11 starts under his belt as a freshman Sheldon earned UCLA’s John Boncheff Jr. Memorial Award for Rookie of the Year. He was later recognized by The Sporting News’, and was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team.

When you meet Sheldon, right away you notice his big smile and charming personality. He passes what I like to call the “athletic eye-ball test.” Meaning he looks like an athlete at first sight; but football player and cornerback? At 6’2 most people would call him a wide receiver, a quarterback, how about a shooting guard. Athletic enough to play any skill position on the field, Sheldon is a natural corner. I have never worked with a kid who was that tall for his position but played quicker and faster than corners smaller than him. Sheldon’s ability to track the ball when its in the air along with his height and jumping ability makes him a real weapon on the UCLA defense.

Next season will be a break out season for Sheldon. Working with him this offseason he clearly has stepped his game up, and is up for any challenge the Pac 12 may bring. He seems to have a better understanding for the game of football and his position much better this year than he has in the past. Working heavily on his press technique this offseason, with his long arms, it will be hard for any wide receiver at any size to get off the ball. Do not be surprised this year if you see Sheldon shadowing every opponent’s best receiver, especially in crunch time.

Shout out to Sheldon Price…. another Stars Athlete, and proud member of the #DREAMTEAM™

Paul Richardson a.k.a PR, a.k.a Richie Rich, a.k.a P Rich, a.k.a That Dude. I personally like to call him CU’s finest. Another proud product of Serra High School in Gardena, Paul has become one of the nation’s top young receivers despite only recording 7 catches in the first 6 games of the season.  His energetic personality is very contagious. Many people have compared him to Chad Johnson not only because of his athleticism but also because of his charismatic personality. My first impression of Paul was another young receiver who thinks they have got the game figured out. You can always count on Paul to be the life of the party, with all the jokes but things get serious when he straps on his cleats and steps in between those white lines. There is no joke when it comes to his game.

Playing along side Scotty McKnight, Colorado’s career leader in receptions, and reception touchdowns, Paul managed to haul in 34 receptions. That may not seem like a lot of catches, but it’s impressive when you only record 7 receptions in the first half of the season.  There was no surprise when Paul earned All Big 12 freshman team honors, along with collegesportingnews.com All American honors, with big time performances against Kansas (11 recs 141) and Iowa State (5 recs 121 yards) these numbers made for an easy selection.

Paul Richardson will be among the top receivers in the Pac 12 next season. Not long after signing with UCLA he transferred to Colorado. That will make for an interesting match up when Colorado comes to the Rose Bowl to play UCLA November 19th. One thing is for certain; Paul will be ready! With Scotty McKnight graduating, Paul will be Colorado’s go to receiver.  Paul has barely scratched the surface of his potential. With a good spring and a good summer, Paul’s game will grow tremendously. It’s going to be exciting to see him line up next season against the Pac-12 top defenders and against his cousin Shaquille Richardson from Arizona. Let the family feud begin.
